Steppenwolf’s Gold: Their Great Hits brings together “Born to Be Wild,” “Magic Carpet Ride,” “Rock Me” and more on Analogue Productions hybrid stereo SACD. Mastered from the original analog tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, this edition presents the complete eleven-track compilation.
The collection captures the band’s hard-driving rock sound, from the unmistakable energy of “Born to Be Wild” to “The Pusher,” both featured in the film Easy Rider. “Sookie, Sookie” adds a soul-inflected edge, while “Hey Lawdy Mama” and “Screaming Night Hog” round out a set built for revisiting Steppenwolf’s signature songs.
Put on the album for a full run through the hits, or return to “Magic Carpet Ride” when you want its familiar groove. The compilation reached No. 24 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart and was certified gold by the RIAA in April 1971.
