Recording source and 1STEP process

Nightclub was originally recorded digitally on a Sony 3348 multitrack recorder and mixed through a Neve analog console to both digital and analog mix-down masters. For this edition, Bernie Grundman used the analog mix-down tapes to assemble a new analog cutting master. The original recording is digital; this is not an all-analog recording chain.

The IMPEX 1STEP process uses short production runs, with a new lacquer after each 500 pressings. Rather than following the conventional father-mother process, it uses a single convert disc between the lacquer and pressing stage, reducing intermediate production steps.

• Patricia Barber – vocals, piano
• Michael Arnopol – bass
