Steely Dan’s Gaucho brings polished grooves and atmospheric arrangements to Analogue Productions hybrid stereo SACD. This edition is mastered by Bernie Grundman from a 1980 analog tape copy originally EQ’d by Bob Ludwig and includes the complete seven-track album.
Released in November 1980, the band’s seventh studio album won the Grammy for Best Engineered Non-Classical Recording. Donald Fagen and Walter Becker’s meticulous studio approach involved at least 42 musicians and more than a year of recording work.
From “Babylon Sisters” and “Hey Nineteen” to “Glamour Profession” and “Time Out of Mind,” Gaucho emphasizes rhythm, mood and carefully layered detail. Settle into the full album and follow its distinctive grooves through the closing “Third World Man.” It was the duo’s final studio album together until 2000.
