Hugh Masekela’s Hope captures the South African trumpeter and his seven-piece group live at Blues Alley in Washington, D.C. This Analogue Productions hybrid stereo SACD presents a twelve-track set celebrated as an audiophile demonstration recording for its dynamic range.
The songs span nearly five decades and offer an informal musical journey through Masekela’s life. From “Grazin’ in the Grass” and “Mandela (Bring Him Back Home!)” to the closing “Stimela [Coal Train],” the performances bring direct, heartfelt expression to the live setting.
