Collection: DMM (Direct Metal Mastering)
Most vinyl is cut using a lacquer master, which is then plated to create the stampers used for pressing. DMM skips the lacquer step entirely — the master groove is cut directly into a copper-coated disc, which produces a sharper, more precise groove wall with lower surface noise and reduced pre-echo. The result is a slightly different tonal character that some listeners describe as more forward or detailed, particularly in the top end and others find harder-edged than a lacquer cut. Stockfisch Records is a well-known modern practitioner of DMM, and their Analog Pearls series highlights the format at its best. Below you'll find our current DMM titles, prized by collectors for their clarity and low-noise pressings.
