Steely Dan’s The Royal Scam pairs intricate guitar work and sharp storytelling on this Analogue Productions hybrid stereo SACD. Mastered by Bernie Grundman direct to DSD from the original master tape, this edition plays in both CD and SACD players.
Originally released by ABC Records in 1976 and produced by Gary Katz, Steely Dan’s fifth studio album features “Kid Charlemagne,” “Don’t Take Me Alive” and “Haitian Divorce.” Its guitar lineup includes Walter Becker, Denny Dias, Larry Carlton, Elliott Randall and Dean Parks, giving the album a more guitar-focused character than its predecessor, Katy Lied.
Settle in for the complete nine-track album, from “Kid Charlemagne” through the title-track finale. Cryptic characters and stories of escape unfold alongside the band’s detailed arrangements. The album reached No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum.
