Genesis’ A Trick of the Tail marks the band’s first album with Phil Collins as lead vocalist. This Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 Series hybrid stereo SACD presents all eight tracks, including “Dance on a Volcano,” “Squonk” and “Ripples.”
Released in February 1976, Genesis’ seventh studio album followed Peter Gabriel’s departure and opened a new chapter for the band. Its layered arrangements and ambitious songwriting helped it reach No. 3 in the U.K. and No. 31 in the U.S.
Recorded at Trident Studios with producer David Hentschel, the album took shape while the band was still searching for a singer. Collins’ performance of “Squonk” helped secure his role as lead vocalist for the complete album. Settle in for the delicate passages of “Entangled” and “Ripples,” then follow the record through to the instrumental finale, “Los Endos.”
