A landmark in modal jazz
Recorded in 1959, Kind of Blue explores a more open approach to improvisation, emphasizing melody and atmosphere rather than dense chord changes. Davis' trumpet is joined by John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley on saxophones, Paul Chambers on bass, Jimmy Cobb on drums, and Bill Evans on piano. Wynton Kelly plays piano on "Freddie Freeloader."
UHQR pressing and source correction
The four-sided 45RPM presentation uses 200g records with a flat UHQR profile from lead-in to run-out. Each pressing is hand inspected before release. This edition also addresses the tape-speed issue affecting the first recording session's three tracks: "So What," "Freddie Freeloader," and "Blue in Green."
